Last Night:
We always start our evening happy hour in the suite. Shogun brings our canape around 5pm. Last evening I had my Grey Goose martini with some nice blue cheese. Rebecca always has chardonnay that we keep in our refrigerator. Above is my blog work station.At 6:15 we go down to the Meridian Lounge. Grace brought my martini and has a spray bottle with dry vermouth. I asked her if it was her perfume. Gusti was our wine sommelier last night in Compass Rose.
Ronnie also assisted Gusti. This is Hendra, our waiter. He is from Indonesia and we've known him since 2014.
I had my usual two orders of escargot and Rebecca had one order of them. For my entree I selected the Dover sole which was deboned at the table by our waiter, Hendra. This entree is available every night.
Rebecca chose one of the specials of the day, pan sauteed cod. It was a fresh fish and was really good.
I enjoyed the flourless chocolate cake with some vanilla ice cream.
We finished dinner an hour before the show so went up the the suite for awhile as the theater doors were not opened yet. I went back down early so as to be there when they did open them 30 minutes prior to showtime. I wanted to be on the the front row for the production show (the first row was blocked off so sat on second row). Rebecca joined me before the show started.
"Divos & Divas" was the show's name. We were absolutely blown away by the VERY talented singers and dancers. Chorography was super. It was the best production show, thanks to the talented cast, that we have seen on any cruise line. The ship's orchestra (from the Ukraine) was also amazing. It makes a huge difference with the larger orchestra which includes a trumpet and trombone in it. Following are some photos of it.
Today:
Gained another hour last night as set clocks back again. We got up at 7:30 before alarm was to go off at 8am.
This is the coffee machine in our suite. It makes good coffee and we keep a small pitcher of cream in the frig. So we had a cup before Shogun showed up with our breakfast. I had asked for a couple blueberry muffins today instead of scrambled eggs as Rebecca has every morning. The internet was pretty slow this morning as I expect there were a lot of guests online. This afternoon it is much faster. At 10am we went to the gym as usual. So far very few folks are exercising there so we can get right on the treadmills.
Someone from Reception called and asked if we had received our invitation to dine with Roberto, the Food & Beverage Director, and the spa manager. I told her we had not so she said we were invited to join them in Chartreuse, French restaurant, this evening at 7pm. Unfortunately, we had to respectfully decline the invitation as this evening is the Seven Seas Society cocktail party in the theater. On SSS evenings miso sea bass is always on the Compass Rose menu. It is our absolute favorite entree and only made on Regent. I told her that I have been waiting for two years to have miso sea bass again plus we just do not care for French food. I apologized to the spa manager on our way to the gym and to Roberto when he came into La Veranda buffet while we were having lunch. He completely understood and said we would do it another night.
I decided to treat myself for lunch today. We sat inside of La Veranda but I went out to the pool grill and ordered this Hebrew National all beef, hotdog. Yummy! Afterwards we walked out to the pool area.This is Irina and she is from the Maldives, some beautiful islands south of India. We were there on our 2010 world cruise. Very nice lady and tending the pool bar.The Natural Duo (Denis & Elina) were playing on pool deck at lunch time.
Very nice day for enjoying the pool deck. Sunny skies, light wind, and 76 degrees. At noon Captain Saro said we have another 2500 miles to go before reaching San Juan. We are in an area of high pressure so great cruising weather and calm seas.
The Observation Lounge is in the front of the ship on Deck 11. Great views with wrap around windows. Pool is midship and La Veranda buffet is aft on this same deck.
Next to the Observation Lounge is the library. The libraries on Regent ships are really nice and have lots of books. Rebecca checked out 3 books the first day and is finishing the first one this afternoon.
At 2pm I went to the theater for a lecture about her leading an expedition to Patagonia in the south of Chile, by Sue Stockdale. I stayed the full 45 minutes but did not really enjoy it that much.
I must relay a funny story. I have mentioned that part of the ship's orchestra plays every evening in the Meridian Lounge. One evening before they started I went up and asked where the band members were from. One said we are from the Ukraine. I told him I though the women in Ukraine were very attractive. About that time the piano player said, "I am from Belarus and we have attractive women too". To which the first guy said, "Then why did you marry a woman from Ukraine!"
As I mentioned, at 6pm there is a cocktail party in the theater for members of Regent's Seven Seas Society. There are different tiers with increasing benefits the more nights you have cruised on Regent. Here are the tiers:
Bronze=7 to 20 nights
Silver=21-74 nights
Gold=75 to 199 nights
Platinum=200 to 399 nights
Titanium=400 to 999 nights
Diamond=1000 to 1999 nights
Commodore=2000+ nights
We now have 695 nights so are Titanium. We have several cruises booked next year and our goal is to become Diamond when on our 2023 world cruise. The newest Regent ship, "Grandeur", is being constructed now and is to be christened in the fall of 2023. If we are Diamond by then we will get invitations to the christening of her.
